Ex-servicemen Quota in UPSC- Age Relaxation of Ex-servicemen in UPSC

As per Ex-servicemen Quota in UPSC, defense personnel can’t take the UPSC Civil Services Exam while in service. But SSC or Short Service Commissioned Officer in the Army can take the CSE exam if he has served less than two tears and meet other eligibility requirements of UPSC. Ex-servicemen Quota in UPSC

The minimum age limit for the candidates applying for UPSC Exam is the same, i.e. 21. However, the upper age limit differs depending on the categories of the candidates.

  • Ex-servicemen (including Commissioned Officers and SSCO/ECOs) get age relaxation up to a maximum of five tears after they have been released from the service and after serving at least 5 years of military service as of the year of the UPSC Exam held. With an upper age relaxation of 5 years.
  • Those whose assignment is scheduled to be over within a year from August 1 of the UPSC exam held can also apply for UPSC Prelims.
  • As per Ex-servicemen Quota in UPSC, those who have been discharged from the service due to misconduct can’t appear for the UPSC exam.
  • Those who have served 5 years of military service but whose assignment has been extended will be eligible only if the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate stating that they will be released on a notice of 3 monthly if they get selected in the UPSC merit list.
  • In addition, the defense personnel who got disabled in a disturbed area or during hostilities in an outside country and were released can get age relaxation up to a maximum of 3 years.

Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Central Civil Services and Posts) Rules, 1979

As per the rules, disabled servicemen have no limit for the number of attempts as long as they don’t cross the upper age limit. Ex-servicemen with SC/ST/OBC category are eligible for getting the age relaxation under both categories as per Ex-servicemen Quota in UPSC. Commissioned Officers (ECOs/SSCOs) who have been released are not eligible.
