The average speed of a car that travels 100 km at a speed of 60 km/h and returns with a speed of 40 km/h is 48 km/hr. The average speed is calculated as the product of total distance traveled and total time required to travel that distance.

Formula to calculate average speed = total distance / total time

First we will find the total distance which is = 100 km + 100 km = 200 km

Now calculate the total time taken to cover 200 km.

So, the time for the onward journey = distance / speed

the time for the onward journey = 100 / 60 = 5 /3 hour

Similarly,

the time taken while returning = 100 / 40 = 5 / 2 hour

Hence, the total time taken to cover 200 km = 5 / 3 + 5 / 2

the total time taken to cover 200 km = (10 + 15) / 6

the total time taken to cover 200 km = 25 / 6 hour

Therefore, the average speed = 200 / (25 / 6)

the average speed = (200 x 6) / 25

the average speed = 8 x 6 = 48 km/hr

Therefore, the average speed of a car that travels 100 km at a speed of 60 km/h and returns with a speed of 40 km/h is 48 km/hr.

Average Speed of Car Travel 100 km at 60 km/h and Return at 40 km/h

As discussed above, the average speed of a car traveling 100 km at 60 km/h and returning at 40 km/h is 48 km/hr. To determine the answer candidates should have a fair idea of the average speed.

Calculating average speed involves dividing the total distance traveled by the total time it took to cover that distance.Speed is the rate of movement of something at a specific time. Average speed refers to the average speed over the course of a journey.

Summary:

A car travels 100 km at a speed of 60 km/h and returns with a speed of 40 km/h. Calculate the average speed for the whole journey.

48 km/hr is the average speed of a car that travels 100 km at a speed of 60 km/h and returns with a speed of 40 km/h. The sum of the total distance traveled and the total amount of time needed to travel that distance is used to calculate the average speed.
