SEBI Grade A Phase 1 Exam: Latest Exam Pattern

You must be well familiar with SEBI Grade A exam pattern 2022 which has been mentioned in the below table. To qualify for phase II, you must target to score a minimum of 40% marks in each of the tests mentioned below separately.

Important points that should be kept in mind are :

  • There is no sectional time limit for individual sections. A composite time of two hours will be provided to solve all sections.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer marked by the candidate.

SEBI Grade A Phase 1 Exam: Exam Day Strategy

1. Quantitative Aptitude 

  • You can easily clear the cutoff of this section if you attempt the questions smartly. 
  • Make sure to revise the tables (1-40), Squares (1-50), and cubes (1-30) for faster calculation in the exam.
  • Understand and practice tricks of a square, square root, cubes, cube root finding. Practice techniques of approximation so that you take less time while addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division operations.
  • Be well versed in Fundamental concepts of Average, Ratio, and Percentage.
  • Start the quantitative aptitude section with the following topics :
  1. Simplification/Approximation
  2. Number Series 
  3. Quadratic Equation
  4. Data Interpretation
  •  If you have time then only move on to Miscellaneous questions. 5-10 questions are expected from the Miscellaneous topics in the exam. In miscellaneous questions, the following topics are comparatively easy to solve :
  1. Problem-based on Ages
  2. Average Questions
  3. Ratio and Proportion questions
  4. Partnership
  5. Profit and Loss
  6. Percentage-based questions.
  • You should allot 22-25 minutes for this section.

 2. English Language

  • Currently, the questions asked in the English language section mainly judge your English Reading skills.
  • Good vocabulary skills, grammar skills, and good reading habits are the key to success in the English Language section.
  • Revise all the Grammar rules, must go through the rules and mistakes/errors mentioned in the topics of the Grammar Scholar Series.
  • Following topics are expected in SEBI Grade A Phase I Exam :
  1. Sentence-starter 
  2. Reading-Comprehension 
  3. Cloze Test 
  4. Fillers/Double-filers
  5. Sentence Correction/Error-spotting/Phrase-Replacement/Sentence Improvement
  6. Para-Jumble 
  • A smart trick to solve the English section is to apply the Elimination Method. Eliminate the options given one by one which is completely incorrect according to you. In this way, you can reach out to the right answer.
  • 15-18 minutes are enough to spend on the English section in the examination.

3. Test of Reasoning

Below mentioned topics are complex and take more time in solving. To be well versed in these topics, always pick higher difficulty level questions while preparing. These topics come in sets of 5 or 6 questions in the exam, So if you manage to get the arrangement, you will be able to solve all the questions set correctly in very less time. Observe the new pattern, complexity of the questions and prepare accordingly. Those topics are as follows:

  1. Puzzles/Seating Arrangement (10-18 questions)
  2. Coding-decoding (5 questions)

General/Economy/ Banking Awareness section consists of 

Revise the current affairs of the last 4-5 months focusing on the following topics –

  • Appointments
  • RBI in news
  • Awards and Honours
  • Sports
  • New Schemes
  • National and International News
  • Latest Developments in Science and Technology
  • Railway

Also, prepare important points regarding SEBI such as chairman, important schemes launched, and other relevant information.

  • Bond Market- Money market, G.sec Market, Corporate bond market, Bond valuation, Duration, sensitivity, risk.

Last-Minute Tips for SEBI Grade A Phase 1

Revise the concepts : 

In the remaining time, revise the concept of topics that you have studied during your preparation. Keep practicing questions. The more you practice, the more you will gain speed in understanding and solving the questions during the actual exam.

Your focus should be on revising what you have already studied. Picking up new chapters at the last moment can confuse you.

Keep in mind your strengths & weaknesses in every section :

While preparing, you must have identified your strengths as well as weaknesses in every section.
