Annamalai University has kept the TNSET Selection Process 2021 similar to the ones used by the UGC. For qualifying for the TNSET Exam, candidates must cross the cutoff. The selection procedure of TNSET is determined according to the specified criteria laid down by the UGC, New Delhi. For qualifying for the TNSET Exam candidates must come in the top 6 % of students. When the candidate qualifies TNSET Exam they become eligible for Assistant Professor in the state of Tamil Nadu. The detailed TNSET selection process is given below.

Annamalai University acts as State Agency for the Tamil Nadu SET Exam. As per the TNSET selection procedure candidates must appear in both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates must choose Paper 2 only as that subject that they studied in their post-graduation.

TNSET Selection Process 2021 Important Points

  • The total number of candidates to be qualified for TNSET is 6% of the total candidates who appeared for the examination.
  • The total slots among the qualified candidates will be based on the reservation policy of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • For qualifying, TNSET candidates must have appeared for both the Papers.
  • The minimum qualifying mark for the general category is 40% in both the papers taken together. There is a relaxation of 5% for OC / BC/ BCM / MBC / DNC category candidates and (SC / SCA / ST / PwD/ Transgender).

TNSET Selection Reservation Policy

The final merit list is prepared to keep in the mind the reservation policy of the Tamil Nadu government. The candidates will be qualified as per the category percentage given below. 

  • Open Category- 31%
  • BC- 26.5%
  • BCM -3.5%
  • MBC-Vanniyakula Kshatriya- 10.5%
  • MBC and DNC- 7%
  • MBC- 2.5%
  • SC- 15%
  • SCA -3%
  • ST- 1%

TNSET Minimum Qualifying Marks & Merit List

For qualifying for the TNSET Exam, candidates must score minimum marks in both Papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2.  Minimum marks criteria apply separately for the General category and reserved category. Candidates must score more than the cutoff for qualifying for TNSET Exam. After the TNSET Exam is conducted, a merit list is released of successful candidates. TNSET Merit List

Annamalai University announces the TNSET Merit List after completion of the exam cycle. The merit list contains the list of candidates who successfully qualify in the TNSET exam and will be eligible for Assistant Professor in the state of Tamil Nadu.

TNSET Exam Selection Process FAQs

  • Only 6 % of the candidates qualify for TNSET in each subject. The selection of candidates for the 6% slot shall be based on the reservation rules and policies of Tamil Nadu.

  • After qualifying TNSET exam, candidates become eligible for Assistant Professor in the state of Tamil Nadu.

  • For the general category 40% aggregate and for reserved categories, 35% aggregate in both the TNSET papers is required to pass.

  • The reservation policy of the Tamil Nadu government was applicable to the TNSET exam.
