The Tropic of Cancer passes through eight Indian states namely Tripura (Udaipur), Gujarat (Jasdan), Chhattisgarh (Sonhat), Rajasthan (Kalinjarh), Jharkhand (Lohardaga), Mizoram (Champhai), Madhya Pradesh (Shajapur), and West Bengal (Krishnanagar). It passes through the Mahi River twice. It cuts Madhya Pradesh and flows to Gujarat where it gets cut again. The Northern Tropic, also known as the Tropic of Cancer, is the most northern circle of latitude on Earth where the Sun can be directly overhead.

According to scientists, the position of the Tropic of Cancer is not fixed and currently, it is slowly drifting towards the south almost 15 metres every year. The Tropic of Cancer is also one of the five spheres of latitude appearing on the globe.
