AILET Counselling and Selection Process 2021

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is administered by the National Law University, Delhi and candidates who are shortlisted get admission into Five-year Law (B.A.LL.B.) (H) Course at NLU. This entrance test is India’s toughest entrance examination related to the legal fraternity and it is also the most densely competed law entrance examination in the sub-continent wherein 25,000 students compete for a meagre sum of 123 seats.

The Candidate who qualify for the AILET exam to take admission into B.A.LL.B.(H) course as per the cutoff is shortlisted for the counselling process. Candidates whose name appears in the merit list have to report at the AILET counselling venue at New Delhi in person to secure their seat. National Law University, Delhi will conduct AILET counselling, which will be segregated into multiple offline rounds and the final admission will be confirmed after the qualifying candidates pay the admission fee.

AILET Selection Process 2021

The NLU sets the selection procedure of AILET. The admission process begins with the AILET Exam. The three major stages are mentioned below.

AILET Counselling – Key Highlights

NLU Delhi is the conducting body for the AILET counselling 2021.

  • NLU Delhi conducts the Counselling in offline mode only.
  • NLU Delhi conducts the AILET counselling for admission to B.A. LL.B (H).
  • Candidates have to pay Rs. 50,000/- (a demand draft) on the day of document verification.

National Law University, Delhi will conduct AILET counselling in multiple rounds.

AILET Counselling: Step-wise Procedure

  1. Issuance of specific merit list (allotment list) by NLU Delhi 
  • NLU Delhi will release a cutoff list on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance exam and the officials will evaluate the performance of each candidate to prepare a merit list on the basis of obtained marks.
  • NLU Delhi will display the merit list of the shortlisted candidates over the official website ( It displays the names of the candidates along with their roll numbers, guardian’s name, gender and marks in AILET.
  1. Downloading call letter from the official website
  • All the shortlisted candidates will be issued a call letter. Same as the procedure of admit card download, candidates have to download the call letter for AILET counselling.
  • Candidates have to use their login credentials to download the AILET call letter for the counselling such as application number or applicant’s name and date of birth.
  1. Reporting at the AILET counselling venue in New Delhi
  • The AILET Call letter will consist of many details including the counselling venue, date and time. Candidates have to report at the counselling venue as mentioned date and time on the call letter. 
  1. Document verification by the officials from NLU Delhi
  • All the shortlisted Candidate has to carry all the necessary documents including the AILET call letter at the counselling venue. The officials of NLU Delhi will verify all the documents to mark the candidates eligible for the admission.
  1. Payment of admission fee for the confirmation of admission
  • Candidates have to carry a demand draft of Rs. 50,000 drawn in favour of ‘The Registrar’ of the National Law University Delhi’, payable at New Delhi on the counselling day.
