What is the Retirement Age of a High Court Judge?

The retirement age of a High Court Judge is between 60 years to 62 years according to section 4 of the constitutional Act 1963. However, the retirement age of the Supreme Court Judge is 65 years. The appointment and retirement rules and regulations of High Court Judge are written in Article 217 of the Indian Constitution. The Judges of the High Courts are appointed by the President.

Qualifications to Become High Court Judge

  • A person must be a citizen of India.
  • They must have an LLB/LLM degree.
  • He/she should have held a judicial office in India for 10 years 
  • He should have been an advocate of a high court for 10 years.
