The difference between transpiration and translocation is that transpiration is the evaporation of water, whereas translocation is the transfer of synthesized products in plants. Transpiration denotes the evaporation of water from the leaves and the transport of water from roots to other parts of the plant. On the contrary, translocation is related to the transfer of synthesized products like sucrose from the leaves to the different parts of the plant.

Difference between Transpiration and Translocation

Transpiration and translocation are two essential concepts in the working of plants. Now, let’s take a closer look at the differences between transpiration and translocation:

Transpiration Translocation
Movement of water and minerals occurs from the roots to different parts of the plant. Transport of materials or food from leaves to other tissues of the plant.
Controlled by osmotic and water potential. Translocation is accomplished by using ATP energy, which offers the osmotic pressure necessary for food to travel upward and downward.
It happens in the daytime. This process takes place at night time.
Includes xylem cells that become effective during absorption. Involves both phloem and xylem cells to carry synthesized photosynthate.
It happens against gravity. It does not happen against gravity.

Summary:

Write the difference between Transpiration and Translocation

Transpiration and translocation are both key processes that take place in plants. Transpiration is about the evaporation of water, and translocation involves the transfer of food from leaves to other parts.
