The Jallianwala Bagh massacre was one of the major events that ignited the fire of rebellion among Indians against British rule. The massacre took place on April 13 in Amritsar on the orders of General Dyer when people had come to Jallianwala Bagh to attend the annual Baisakhi fair. Some of them were united in the Bagh to protest against the new repressive measures by the British Government. On April 13, a huge crowd gathered on the adjoining grounds of Jallianwala Bagh. Most of the people were participating in the annual Baisakhi fair, while some of them gathered to protest against the new repressive measures introduced by the British government. At that time, martial law was instituted by the government in the city. However, most of the people on the ground were from outside the city and were unaware of the imposition of martial law.
