Who Started New India Weekly?

The New India Weekly was a Daily Newspaper started by Annie Besant. Beginning in the early 20th century, The New India Weekly was designed to be a daily publication. This newspaper was founded specifically to draw attention to issues surrounding the Indian freedom struggle.

The newspaper played an important medium of open expression during the Indian independence movement. Annie Besant was a British socialist, women’s rights activist, educationist, and philanthropist who was regarded as a human rights and freedom champion. She was a supporter of Indian and Irish self-rule. Besant used the medium of a newspaper to broadcast her views concerning the hardships faced by the Indian freedom fighters during that period.

She published a daily Indian newspaper called The New India Weekly. She openly expressed her opinions in her editorials for the New India Weekly Daily newspaper regarding the freedom struggles of Indian freedom fighters.

Purpose of New India Weekly

The sole purpose of her actions was to disseminate information about the Indian freedom movement and to further her own argument. The newspaper New India was established to disseminate information about the Indian freedom struggle and to allow its founder to express her opinions through editorials. It was on par with Tilak’s Kesari and Gandhi’s Harijan.

Another important figure in the freedom struggle was Bipin Chandra Pal, who also started a newspaper to spread patriotic views and inspire his readers.
