Narmada river divides the country into two regions – the Central Highlands (or Malwa Plateau) and the Deccan plateau in the south. The Deccan plateau has a vast historical, cultural, and geopolitical relevance.

India’s largest plateau is the Deccan Plateau. The average elevation of the Deccan range, which spans 100 to 1000 meters, is 600 meters. Some of the most powerful dynasties and empires, including the Yadava dynasty, the Maratha Empires, and the Deccan Sultanates, were based on the Deccan plateau. It still supports a diverse population of people, animals, and plants. It crosses through a range of habitats that are home to numerous flora and fauna.

The entire Indian southern peninsula south of the Narmada River is referred to as the Deccan Plateau. It is a tall triangular plateau that is bordered to the west and east by the Satpura and Vindhya Ranges, which meet at the plateau’s southernmost point, and to the north by the Western Ghats. Lastly, the Deccan plateau holds a lot of ecological and geographical value for the country.
