The Disadvantages of the Lok Adalat System are that the proceedings are held in open court, and any member of the public is welcome to attend. As a result, there is a breach of confidentiality. Lok Adalat was established in 1987 and is overseen by the Supreme Court of India. It is a forum where disputes or cases pending in a court of law or at the pre-litigation stage are cordially settled or compromised.

Some other Disadvantages of the Lok Adalat System are as follows:
- It is impossible to sit with the same judge again, which complicates matters and breaks the continuity of deliberation.
- Conciliatory and persuasive efforts are used to settle disputes.
- If the parties do not compromise or agree to a settlement, the case is either returned to court or the parties are advised to seek remedy in court.
- The consent of both parties is required when the Lok Adalat decides cases.

Lok Adalats works at the National, State, District, and Taluka level. It is conducted by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and other Legal Services Institutions. Below we have mentioned the types of cases that can be heard in the Lok Adalat.

- Apart from this, offenses related to labor disputes, house utility bills, and matrimony can be heard in the Lok Adalats.
