Disadvantages of Organic Farming
Organic farming is an agricultural process that includes organic fertilizers (eg- bone meal, green manure, compost manure), pesticides, livestock food additives, growth regulators, and genetically modified organisms. But, it has some disadvantages. This includes-
High cost: The practice of organic farming demands a lot of money as the production from the land is not the same as that of the traditional farmers. Also, the production cost is higher than expected.
Poor Marketing: Since food is produced in small quantities, the distribution and marketing of food are not as efficient.
Requirement of adequate knowledge: This is a special process. Thus, organic farmers need to have sufficient skills required for it. They should have adequate knowledge of localized soil systems, ecology, meteorology, and other factors responsible for crop growth. If the farmer does not have enough knowledge and skill, they will be unable to save the crop from danger.
Easily susceptible to disease: Organic crops are prone to disease. Because of this, the pace of production may slow down.
Lack of Subsidy: Farmers not only have to face the issue of bad crops, but they also have to face the loss of the subsidy they get to other farmers. Crop disease and bad weather conditions make them lose their land and livelihood.
Organic Pesticides and other Chemicals: Organic farmers use low-concentration organic pesticides and chemicals. They are harmless but can be toxic to crops if used frequently.
