These currents hamper the working of the transformer. In order to reduce these currents, the transformer core is laminated to reduce heat loss due to eddy currents.

Transformers work to produce electromotive force in a circuit. To reduce core loss, transformer cores are laminated. It is the core of a transformer that is made of silicon steel. By including laminations, each component’s area is lowered, resulting in a very high resistance that restricts the eddy current to a low value and lowers eddy current losses.

Eddy currents are the types of currents that visually look like a whirlpool. When a conductor comes in contact with a magnetic field, these types of currents are induced. These are also known as Foucault currents. These currents work on Faraday’s law of Induction.
