Who founded the Deccan Educational Society?

In 1884, theDeccan education society was founded byhonourable Justice Mahadev Govind Ranade, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and Gopal Ganesh Agarkar with the support of various prominent nationalists such as M.S. Gole, V. S Apte, Vishnushastri Chiplunkar, V.S.Apte, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, V. B. Kelkar, Mahadev Ballal Namjoshi, N. K. Dharap, etc.
In Pune, various colleges and schools were opened for social welfare by the Deccan education society. Society even took over a few colleges and schools as well. A few colleges established by them are
- Fergusson College
- Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce
- Willingdon College
The very first institute established by the society was in less than a few months. The name of the institute was Sir James Fergusson and it was set up in 1885. This school achieved iconic status. The society then established many colleges and schools in Pune. Presently, the Deccan Education Society is a group of 45 institutions imparting primary, secondary and higher education in various fields.
