Bharatanatyam is a famous dance of Tamil Nadu state. It is an Indian traditional or classical dance that originated in the state of Tamil Nadu. It shows the ancient religious theme of the state. Bharatanatyam is also the mother of all country dance forms, as it is the oldest dance form. Origin State of Bharatanatyam Famous Dance
In the Chidambaram Temple, Tamil Nadu, more than 1800 Bharat Natyam Poses are carved on the stones. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva (Hindu God). In the earlier 19th century, the Britishers banned this dance form. Later, they faced a huge protest against this ban, and the native people reformed the dance and performed it on a big level in the 20th century.
Earlier, this dance form was popularly known as Sadir or Dasi Attam. According to Natya Shastra, written by Bharat Muni, the Bharat Natyam dance is related to the Tandav of Lord Shiva. The Tamil Epic Silappatikaram contains all the details, including ancient information related to the Bharatnatyam dance form.
The music of Bharatnatyam is classically based, and Mridangam is the main musical instrument used in the Bharat Natyam dance form. Apart from Mridangam, violin, Veena, flute, etc., are used during the performance. The costume for this dance form is fixed. Male dancers wear Panjama or Dhoti (As per their choice) Kanchipuram silk jacket. While female dancers wear the same color and material Choli as Dhoti or Pajama.
