In this article, we have covered the UPSSSC PET preparation strategy and tips concerning Data Interpretation with emphasis on Graph Interpretation and Tabular Interpretation of Data.

UPSSSC PET 2022 DI and Analysis Questions, Preparation Strategy Tips

The topics mentioned in the UPSSSC syllabus include History – emphasis on Indian National Movement, Geography, Indian Constitution and Public administration, Indian Economy, General Science, elementary arithmetic, General Hindi, Reasoning, General Awareness, and Current Affairs. As per the official notification, the question paper will be 100 marks carrying 100 questions to be of objective-type, which must be completed within a maximum duration of two hours. The syllabus also has a mention of General Hindi and basic attitude comprising Analysis and Interpretation. In this segment, interpretation is needed for Graphs, Charts, Tables etc.

This article let us understand the requisites for UPSSSC Data Interpretation preparation. This segment holds significantly more weightage, and as notified, 10 Qs would be asked in the examination. For effective preparation, one must prioritise what to study, and it can be done by going through the syllabus details. The questions from the Data Interpretation cover the maximum part of the Quantitative Aptitude segment in almost all the major competitive examinations. UPSSC PET also includes Data Interpretation in its syllabus. As the exam is being conducted to select Group C services employees, the difficulty level and format can be broadly considered on par with SSC, Banking, Reginal Rural Banks (RRBs), Insurance exams, etc.

Note: Data Interpretation is one such exam where questions from different concepts are included to gaze at a candidate’s reasoning and interpretation ability.

What Type of Questions can be asked in the UP PET DI?

– Graph – bar graph and line Graph (Horizontal or vertical)

– Caselet Form

– Pie Chart

– Tabular Forma

Note: Sometimes, they are asked in the form of statements, meaningful conclusions seeking information decoding from averages, distances, simple interest, and compound interest etc., that are included in the DI.

Let us explore it in a little detail,

Graph: In graphs, information is either given in a bar or line format. Large pieces of information and trends can be easily presented in a concise yet decodable form.

Tabular form: Data representation in a tabular form is another easy and presentable way to include large pieces of information spread across the rows and columns.

Chart: Chart is another handy format of information representation. Generally, charts are in the form of wither Line chart or a Pie Chart. In the line chart, data is represented in a linear format, whereas a pie chart is a circular representation of data. Also, pie charts are very useful when questions are to be framed on a single statement based.

Caselet form: A caselet is a paragraph form of representation of data. In this, no image is depicted to represent data. The candidate needs to decode information based on the assessment of the paragraph.

Missing Data: Generally, it is an extension of tabular form wherein data interpretation questions have missing information. And a candidate needs to solve them by finding out the hidden information in the given data.

The best way to solve such questions is to pick up the key points on which candidates can work and start approaching the conclusion. And the answer can be decoded and derived.

It is important to assess any given piece of information based on the underlying information, the questions that need to be solved, and the data represented in the form of questions. Data interpretation is nothing but decoding the relevant information from the given data.

To solve the data interpretation question fast and in the given time frame, it is implicit that a candidate must have a good command of topics like numerical ability. Command over numerical ability is very important while solving the subparts of each graph or data, which is presented under the data interpretation questions.

UPSSSC PET Preparation Tips for Data Interpretation (DI)

BYJU’S Exam Prep experts have curated preparation strategies and tips to prepare the Data Interpretation section for the upcoming UPSSSC PET exam 2022

Scale up the calculative ability

Data interpretation requires the fast calculative ability to come on to a conclusion. Remember, data interpretation is one such segment that requires both accuracy and speed. Therefore, regular practice is needed to hone your skills related to calculations. Initially, a candidate might face difficulty in overcoming the challenges concerning calculations, but it can be mastered with repeated solving of questions.

Analyse before solving

There is a general rule and observation associated with DI questions, i.e., the more the data less are the efforts needed to conclude. So, that should be grounded. Do not get bothered by long passages or more information if given in any of the DI questions. Carefully, analyze, a candidate would easily approach the correct answer.

Note: One must be in practice and vigilance of the difficulty level of the question.

Develop speed with accuracy

To ace this, one must be comfortable with numbers, calculations, percentages, and fractions. And this can only be achieved through systemic practice. There is an additional benefit of practice that eventually shortcuts and tricks are developed. It is advisable that one must develop tricks related to shortcuts for square, cube, and multiplication as they are very useful for deducing the answer fast.

Refrain and overcome dependency on calculators

Develop the habit of calculating mentally when not studying. Get your brain accustomed to calculating without the usage of calculators. It is like developing a mental muscled concerning calculation, which can only be accomplished with regular practice. Those candidates preparing for any competitive examinations that have aptitude tests in the exam cycle must follow this as a rule.

Note: try remembering in units, as it helps decode data fast. It is very much essential for one-day exams and more so in the case of UPSSSC PET.

Additional Preparation Tips for UPSSSC PET

  • Candidates must dedicate 1-2 hours daily to study and revise important data interpretation and analysis segments daily. These segments require daily practice to master the decoding of information lying in the pie charts, graphs, or tabular format.
  • Candidates must practice enough based on frequent revisions of facts, figures, phenomena, etc., to effective master some techniques that are inherently developed and mastered with practice.

Note: Candidates must make short notes of important facts and figures easily mastered from any standard quant and aptitude book.
