What is UPPCS J Exam?

UP PCS J exam, also known as the U.P. Judicial Service Civil Judge exam or UPPSC civil judge exam, is a government recruitment exam administered by UPPSC to recruit eligible candidates for the post of civil judge. The exam is conducted in a three-stage manner, starting from the Prelims exam, followed by Mains and Interview. The selection will be based on the candidates' total marks in the Main (written) examination and Interview. UPPCS Civil Judge Eligibility: Educational Qualification

As per the eligibility for the UPPSC J exam, the educational qualification for UP Civil Judge are as follows:

  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor of Law degree from a university established by law in Uttar Pradesh or any other Indian university recognized by the Governor for this purpose. OR
  • Must be an Advocate enrolled under the Advocate Act 1961, a Barrister of England or Northern Ireland, or a Member Faculty of Advocates in Scotland, with the right to practice in the Court or Courts subordinate to it.
  • It is also mandatory that the applicant has a good understanding of Hindi in Devnagri Script.

UPPSC Civil Judge Selection Process

The UPPSC J selection process is similar to the UPPSC PCS exam. It is a three-step process. The first stage is the UP Civil judge prelims exam. Candidates who qualify for the UPPSC J prelims exam are called for the mains examination. Applicants who clear the UP J Mains exam are then called for the interview. 

According to the official notification, candidates for the main examination will be deemed successful in a ratio of 1:10, and candidates for the interview will be declared successful in a ratio of 1:3. For the final merit list, marks of the mains and interview rounds are considered.
