Let us have a look at some major incidents that occurred on this day in History -
- 1947: On 15 August 1947, India after Partition was declared independent of British rule and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was sworn in as the first Prime Minister of independent India.
- 1854: East India Railway started the first passenger train from Calcutta (now Kolkata) to Hooghly, although officially its operation started in 1855
