What is XAT Full Form?
The full form of XAT Exam is Xavier Aptitude Test. It is an online computer-based exam conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur every year, in the month of January to shortlist candidates for MBA in HRM and BM programs. It is a national-level MBA Entrance Exam and one of the toughest exams in India. As per the latest XAT Exam Pattern, there are three parts in this exam.
- Part 1: Decision Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, Verbal and logical ability
- Part 2: Mock Keyboard Testing
- Part 3: General Knowledge and Essay

History of XAT
Xavier Aptitude Test XAT is a national-level exam, conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur every year. It has a long history that dates back to 1950. In the year 1953, XAT was conducted for the first time by XLRI (founded in 1949) by a group of Belgian Jesuits. The first exam was conducted to shortlist the candidates for PGDBM programs offered by XLRI.
The XAT exam has developed and grown throughout time to measure students’ abilities in a wider range of areas. Essay writing and general knowledge questions were added to the examination in 1970 and are still on it now. For their MBA and other management degrees, the XAT exam began recognising scores from other Indian business schools in the 1980s. In the 1990s, the XAT exam switched to a computer-based format and began to accept results from foreign business schools.
Eligibility Criteria for XAT
XAT is an admission test for MBA and PGDM courses offered by XLRI and other Top MBA Colleges in India, including SPJIMR Mumbai, IMT Ghaziabad, TAPMI Manipal, XIMB Bhubaneswar, etc.
- The candidates must complete 3 years of Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline.
- If you are a final-year graduation student, you can also apply for the test as well.
- There are no limitations on the age limit. If you fulfil the basic eligibility parameters you can apply for this exam.
Paper Pattern and Syllabus
XAT has four parts, from which a total of 105 questions are asked. We have shared a short review of the updated paper pattern of XAT in the section below:
- Part 1: It consists of 3 sections: DM, QADI and Verbal and Logical Ability. A total of 175 minutes are allotted to this part.
- Part 2: Mock Keyboard Testing. The candidates can get 5 minutes for this part.
- Part 3: GK and Essay writing. You can get a total of 30 minutes for this part.
