Japan 2019: Human-centred future society
With global issues like the situation of the global economy, future of the labour market, gender equality, macroeconomic policy, digital economy, reform of the World Trade Organization, financial regulation, taxation, and trade issues to be addressed, the G-20 Summit 2019 was held from 28th June to 29th June in Osaka, Japan.
- It was the first G20 summit hosted by Japan.
- The theme of the G20 summit is 'Human-centred future society.'
Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, officially hosted the ceremony at the International Exhibition Center in Osaka, Japan.
Note: The previous G20 summit took place in Buenos Aires in 2018.

Different themes of G20 Summit 2019
- The '2019 G20 Summit' discussed eight themes to Ensure Global Sustainable Development.
Theme 1: Global Economy
- The G20 core mission is to establish economic fundamentals for realising sustainable and inclusive growth of the global economy
- It discusses concrete actions for strengthening growth potential
- It also discusses the areas of international taxation and finance
- The summit takes up issues of how to respond to economic and social structural changes bought by globalization and digitalisation
Theme 2: Trade and Investment:
- The summit discusses the importance of growth, productivity, innovation, jobs creation and development. The G20 Ministerial Meeting on Trade and Digital Economy held in Tsukuba city on June 8 and 9 focuses on the following issues:
- Dialogue on current international trade developments
- A sound Business Environment that promotes market-driven investments decisions
- Promotion of trade and investment that contribute to sustainable and inclusive growth
- WTO Reform, recent developments in Bilateral and regional trade agreements
Theme 3: Innovation
- The summit will take up the following application:
- Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT)
- Human-centric AI
- Digital security
- Digital for SDGs and inclusion
- With this, the Presidency also suggested discussing the importance of social application of emerging technologies such as AI (Artificial Intelligence), IoT (Internet of Things), robotics, and big data.
- It contributes to fully harnessing the opportunities brought about by digitalization, as well as to achieve a "Society 5.0"* and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

India will host the G20 summit in the year 2022 in New Delhi on the occasion of its 75th year of Independence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced it during the ongoing meeting of G20 summit 2018 in Argentina.
During the G-20 summit in Argentina, PM Modi had requested Italy if it can host the summit in 2021 and allow India to host G-20 countries for the annual summit in 2022. They accepted our request, others accepted it too,".
