CSIR NET Life Science Mind Map: Hormones and Their Receptors

By Astha Singh|Updated : March 1st, 2023

Aspirants preparing for the CSIR NET examination have to go through a lot of phases where it seems difficult to memorize and understand the concepts very well. While preparing for the CSIR NET Life Science 2023 Exam, the candidates might face problems in memorizing the function of a particular part of the cell. Mind maps are the answer to all your problems regarding memorizing the concepts and information on a certain topic.

We at BYJU'S EXAM PREP have come up with the idea of providing the mind maps for all the units in the Life Science subject to make your preparation easy. These mind maps are developed by our subject experts considering the most important topics that the candidates need to prepare for the CSIR NET 2023 Exam. In this article, we have provided a detailed mind map for the topic of Hormones and their receptors which comes under Cell Communication and Cell Signaling in Life Science.

Mind Map For Hormones and their receptors

Cell signalling over long distances makes use of endocrine cells, which secrete their signal molecules into the bloodstream, called hormones. The blood carries the molecules over long distances, allowing them to act on target cells that may lie anywhere in the body. Hormone binding to nuclear receptors induces conformational changes that accordingly alter the interactions of these receptors with other proteins in the cascade. Heterodimeric nuclear receptors for retinoids, vitamin D, and thyroid hormones are localized in the nucleus. In the absence of hormones with the corresponding response element, they repress the transcription of target genes. They activate transcription when bound to their ligands. Steroid hormone receptors are homodimeric nuclear receptors. In the absence of hormones, they are trapped in the cytoplasm by molecular chaperones. They can translocate to the nucleus and activate the transcription of target genes when bound to their ligands.
