On an unfortunate day, an incident happened in Baghdad, the capital city of Iraq, which shook the world. On 19 August 2003, a total of 22 people were killed in the terrorist attack. Terrorist carried out a bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad. Sergio Vieira de Mello, the chief of humanitarian in Iraq was among the deads.
The above incident shows us the danger that our humanitarian workers are working in. Every year many philanthropic workers get killed or injured in the course of their work.
In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly formalized the date 19th August as World Humanitarian Day. The UN-designated this day to honour the philanthropic work carried out by our aid workers.

2.0 Theme of World Humanitarian Day:
It's been eleven years since the first world humanitarian day was celebrated. This year the world is paying tribute to the sacrifices that our aid workers made in the line of their work.
This year's theme is "REAL LIFE HEROES".
This is a worldwide campaign to say 'thank you" to the people who have committed their lives to help others. It is a way of showing gratitude to the real-life heroes who dedicated their life for the improvement of others.
This year the campaign focuses on what drives aid workers to protect and serve the people around the world despite the rising conflict, insecurity, lack of resources and risk associated with COVID-19
