When dilute HCL is added to iron fillings Hydrogen gas and iron chloride are produced. When dilute HCL is added to iron filling it reacts with iron filling and leads to the formation of iron chloride or ferrous(II) chloride and with this hydrogen gas is also liberated. The reaction is defined as:
