One of the major aims of democracy is to create harmony in the social life of its citizen. However, certain conditions affect the smooth functioning of society. The conditions under which democracies accommodate social diversities are as follows-

  • The opinions of the majority and minority groups are not permanent.
  • There is a need that the majority and minority should work in harmony so that the government functions smoothly to represent the general views.
  • There should not be a contribution of both sides of the society instead of the rule by the majority, as it is not what democracy is.
  • The decision of the majority should be free from discrimination based on the terms of religion, race, or linguistic group.
  • If an individual is barred from being in the majority based on his birth, then the democratic rules are ceased to be accommodative.
  • Majority can be formed by different persons or groups in case of every decision of every election. This is known as the rule by the majority.
  • The meaning of democracy is justified till all the citizens enjoy the chance to make the majority.
