Over the last couple of years, the English section of the Banking Examinations has given good surprises. You must have encountered one or more new type of question in almost every Banking exam you appear for. Many of these questions exclusively check your vocabulary skills. So, apart from enhancing your reading, writing and speaking skills, a sound grip on vocabulary helps you score better in examinations.

5. Word: Allay (कम कर देना)

    a. diminish or put at rest (fear, suspicion, or worry).
    b. relieve or alleviate (pain or hunger).
  • Synonyms:  reduce, decrease, lessen
  • Antonyms: provoke, intensify, aggravate
  • Usage in a Sentence: The government is enthusiastic to allay the public's fears.

6. Word: Amend (ठीक करना)

  • Pronunciation: uh-mend/ अमेन्ड
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning: make minor changes to (a text, piece of legislation, etc.) in order to make it fairer or more accurate, or to reflect changing circumstances.
  • Synonyms: change, modify, alter
