The Southwest Monsoon and Northeast Monsoon can be defined as the southwest monsoon, also known as the rainy season, beginning in June and continuing until September, while the northeast monsoon, known as the autumn season, is characterized by the retreating monsoon. It is known as the autumn season, as it takes place between October and November.
The southeast monsoon can be seen from the Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal. The southern part of India, especially Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, receives rainfall during the northeast monsoon. The southwest monsoon and the northeast monsoon are monsoons with different timings.

Southwest and Northeast Monsoon
The Southwest Monsoon is caused by excessive heat during the summer. The intense heating causes the formation of low pressure over the Tibetan Plateau. The Southwest Monsoon winds are to blame for the heavy rains that fall across most of India.
In contrast, the northeast monsoon winds cause rain on India’s southeast coast, particularly on Seemandhra’s south coast and the Tamil Nadu coast.
Factors influencing the Southwest Monsoons
The factors that influence the Southwest Monsoons are as follows:
- Intense low-pressure formation over the Tibetan Plateau.
- Subtropical jet stream.
- Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone.
- Tropical easterly jet or African Easterly jet.
- Permanent high-pressure cell in the South of the Indian Ocean.
Factors influencing the Northeast Monsoons
The factors that influence the Northeast Monsoons are as follows:
- High-pressure cells in the southern parts of the Indian Ocean migrate to the west and gradually weaken.
- Migration or shift of Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone to southern India.
- Formation and strengthening of the high-pressure cells of the Siberian and Tibetan Plateaus during winters.
