Einstein’s Letter to Franklin Roosevelt
On August 2, 1939, Albert Einstein sent a letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was the president of the United States at the time. Nazi Germany was at the time working on nuclear weapons that could possibly cause mass destruction. In his letter, Einstein discussed the same topic in order to alert the American President to impending peril.
Einstein was supported by his fellow physicist Leo Szilard in sending the letter to the President of the United States. In the letter, Einstein wrote about how the atomic bomb, if it exploded in a port, would destroy the entire port and the surrounding territory.
