The Father of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in India is Justice Bhagwati. He was the Chief Justice of India from 12 July 1985 to 20 December 1986. A public interest dispute means a dispute to protect the public interest. It is an essential concept in law and politics. It is also called Social Action Litigation (SAL), which is the main method through which judicial activism has flourished in India.

Father of PIL in India

PIL is not defined in any Act or any Act. It was interpreted by the judges to consider the intention of the public in general.

Justice Bhagwati is the Father of PIL in India. During the period of 12 July 1985 to 20 December 1986, he served as India’s Chief Justice. A public interest lawsuit can be filed in court to address any issue that is of great public interest.
