Where is India Located and Who are its Neighbours?

India is located entirely in the Northern hemisphere, the mainland extends between latitudes 8°4’N and 37°6’N and longitudes 68°7’E and 97°25’E. The neighbors of India are China (Tibet), Nepal, and Bhutan in the north, Myanmar and Bangladesh in the east, Sri Lanka and the Maldives in the south, and Pakistan and Afghanistan in the northwest.

India is in Asia’s southern hemisphere. It is South East Asia’s second-largest country located in the world’s Northern and Eastern Hemispheres.
- India is the world’s seventh-largest country in terms of land area and the second-largest in terms of population.
- India has a large geographical area, with a land border of 15,106.7 km and a 7,516.6 km coastline.
- India’s mainland coastline, including Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep, is 7,516.6 km, with a land boundary of approximately 15,200 km.
Neighbouring Countries of India
- India is separated from Sri Lanka by a narrow channel of sea formed by the Palk Strait and the Gulf of Mannar.
- India shares a 3488 km long border with the largest Asian country, China.
- Maldives Islands are located to the south of the Lakshadweep Islands.
- During the 19th and 20th centuries, India, the second-most populous nation in the world, was governed by the British.
- However, it tasted independence for the first time in 1947. The country hasn’t turned back since.
- Another immediate neighbor with whom India has had controversial relations since 1947 is Pakistan.
- India also shares its borders and some cultural heritage with Bangladesh, which was earlier East Pakistan.
- Towards the far north, India shares borders with Nepal, with a border length of 1751 Km. And towards the northeastern side, we share borders with the small country of Bhutan, with a border that stretches to 699 km.
- Lastly, India also shares borders with Afghanistan as it runs along the lines of Jammu and Kashmir (Pok).
- India has consistently pursued success and glory, which was obvious when India was still standing tall while most of the world was reeling from the effects of the economic downturn.
