The Type of Cases decided Under Civil Law include Tort claims, Breach of contract claims, Equitable claims, and Landlord/Tenant issues. Furthermore, matters relating to personal injuries such as divorce, property issues, tenant issues/rent issues, and some other claims are also settled under civil law. Civil cases are dealt with in civil courts. The subjects under civil law usually relate to issues between people or institutions.

Types of Cases Under Civil Law

The disputes under civil law are mostly about money. Cases under civil law can be divided into four categories:

  • Tort Claim: These include matters relating to personal injury. The term ‘tort’ means ‘torture,’ which means that such cases relate to personal injury caused to a person by another person with respect to feelings, dignity, property issues, or otherwise.
  • Breach of contract claims: Matters arising out of breach of contract by someone. Cases under this category certainly pertain to issues where a contract has been breached, or the terms of the contract have not been performed as promised.
  • Justifiable Claims/Equitable Claims: Matters relating to seeking permission from a court to withhold certain action. These cases pertain to obtaining a restraining order against another party when an action is required to be restricted or restrained.
  • Landlord/Tenant Matters: Most of the cases are related to rent matters. These cases are generally related to disputes arising from a rift between the landlord and the tenant.

Lastly, a civil case is created when one person or party claims damage caused by the other party in various ways, depending on a specific category of civil cases mentioned above.
