The Aim of Arya Samaj was that the Vedas, the earliest Hindu writings, should be restored as the revealed truth. The Vedas, according to the Arya Samaj, were the first Hindu scriptures to be restored as manifest truth. Its secondary goal was to increase the overall physical, spiritual, and social welfare of mankind.

Arya Samaj is a monotheistic Hindu reform movement in India that supports principles and practices based on the Vedas’ irrefutable authority. On April 7, 1875, sannyasi Dayanand Saraswati established the samaj.

Arya Samaj was the first Hindu group to practice proselytization. The major aim of Arya Samaj was to rekindle the values and spread the message of the ancient Vedas & rebuild faith in Hindu literature.

Founder of Arya Samaj

Swami Dayananda Saraswati, a social and religious reformer, was born on February 12th, 1824. He was born in Gujarat in Tankara. He established Arya Samaj on April 7, 1875.

  • Tax collector Karshanji Lalji Kapadia and his wife Yashodabai raised him in an affluent family.
  • He studied the Vedas and Sanskrit in his early years.
  • Following the deaths of his sister and uncle, he began to ponder the meaning of life.
  • Mul Shankar decided in his teens that he wanted to live an ascetic life and deserted his parents when he became engaged to be married.
  • During this time, he also began to practice yoga.
  • His spiritual preceptor in all matters was Virajanand Dandeesha.
  • He spent 25 years as a traveling ascetic, visiting the Himalayas and other religious sites in northern India.
  • He sought the truth about life and gave up all earthly possessions in the process.
