They are subordinated by officers who can only conduct investigations on their behalf and cannot file charges. In some states, like Kerala, they might serve as station officers.

ASI Full Form

The Full Form of ASI is Assistant Sub Inspector. An ASI is a non-gazetted police officer who ranks below a Sub-inspector and above a police head constable. The officer is in charge of police outposts and investigation centers. For senior officers, ASI reports incidents.

DSP Full Form

The Full Form of DSP is Deputy Superintendent of Police. DSP is also known as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). They are members of the provincial forces who have a set number of years of service—between 8 and 15 years, depending on the state—before they can be promoted to the Indian Police Service.

SP Full Form
