An Ecosystem is an area where plants, animals, and other species, as well as weather and topography, collaborate to build a bubble of life. It is a functional unit of nature in which living organisms interact with one another as well as with their physical surroundings. Its size ranges from a little pond to a vast forest or sea.

Ecosystem Definition
The energy flow in an ecosystem is unidirectional. Initially, plants capture solar energy and then, food is transferred from the producers to decomposers. Ecosystems consist of both biotic and abiotic factors, which are basically living and non-living things.
For instance, the biotic factors include plants, animals, and many other organisms. Whereas abiotic elements include temperature, humidity, and rocks. Finally, ecosystems can be large or small. An example of a tiny ecosystem is a tide pool which is a small pond.

- Different trophic levels of species are linked to each other for food or energy. This connection creates a food chain.
