However, it has resulted in socioeconomic issues that have become a major concern.

Problems of Urbanization

Below we have listed some of the major Problems of Urbanization.

  • Overcrowding: According to the United Nations, the world’s urban population has grown from 751 million in 1950 to 4.2 billion in 2018. As a result of this, many Indian cities are overcrowded.
  • Unemployment: Another issue associated with urbanization is unemployment. As the population of cities grows, it becomes more difficult to find work.
  • Housing issues: These are obvious as people move to cities and overpopulate them. As a result, houses are becoming more scarce.
  • Sanitation Issues: Due to the rapid growth of the human population, local governments are finding it difficult to properly set up and manage the sewerage system.
  • Water Shortage: One of the major problems of urbanization is water scarcity. It becomes hard to meet the water demand due to the increasing population.
  • Health Hazards: People living in congested areas are exposed to a lot of risks. Poor sanitation, water problems, and living in high–risk areas lead to all kinds of diseases.
