The world population has grown very rapidly because of the increasing numbers of people surviving reproductive age. It is accompanied by significant changes in fertility rates, increased urbanisation, and faster migration. According to a United Nations report, the world’s population is expected to grow by 2 billion people over the next 30 years, reaching nearly 11 billion by 2100.

China and India are the world’s most populous countries. Africa is the fastest-growing continent, with more than half of global population growth expected between now and 2050. Europe’s population is declining. The following factors influence global population growth:
- Fertility rates: Population growth is dependent on fertility. Global fertility is estimated to fall from 2.5 children per woman in 2019 to 2.2 in 2050.
- Increasing longevity: It refers to life expectancy. It is expected to rise from 72.6 years in 2019 to 77.1 years in 2050.
- International migration: Some countries send or receive large numbers of economic migrants. More than one million migrants were inflowed in fourteen countries between 2010 and 2020.
Many countries are using different strategies to control the population in their nation. Some of them are working and some of them are not.
