The digestion of fats in our body occurs in the form of large globules, and the fat reaches the small intestine. Bile juice released by the liver emulsifies the fat, i.e. the large globules are broken into smaller globules. The globules are broken into molecules by lipase. The juices released by the small intestine convert the fat molecules into glycerol and fatty acids that the body can use.

Fat Digestion Process in our Body

When you begin chewing your food, digestion gets underway. Food is simpler to flow through your oesophagus and into your stomach when it is moistened by saliva and broken into smaller pieces by your teeth. Peristalsis, a series of muscle contractions that take place when you swallow, transports the food from your oesophagus into your stomach.

The lining of your stomach secretes acids and enzymes that further decompose your meal so it may move to the small intestine. Your pancreas creates enzymes that digest proteins, carbs, and lipids. Bile, produced by your liver, aids in the digestion of fats and several vitamins. Cholesterol and fat are combined to form chylomicrons, which are little particles.

Fatty acids are used or stored for energy, cell repair, and growth after the fat has been digested. They are then transported throughout the body by the bloodstream after passing through the lymphatic system. The four primary stages of food digestion included in the human body are as follows:

  • Once the food is taken through the mouth, it moves through the stomach into the small intestine, where digestion is done.
  • The bloodstream absorbs the nutrients in digested food through small pores of the small intestine.
  • The remaining undigested food is sent to the large intestine, where unprocessed nutrients or water are reabsorbed into the body.
  • The waste food product remaining is sent out of the body in the form of stools.

Therefore, fat digestion in our body occurs in the small intestine, and the process occurs both in the small intestine and large intestine.

Summary:

How are Fats Digested in our Body? Where does this Process Take Place?

The small intestine is the place where the digestion of fats in our body takes place in the form of globules, and the process occurs both in the small intestine and large intestine. After the fat has been digested, fatty acids are used or retained for energy, cell repair, and growth. After moving through the lymphatic system, they are carried by the bloodstream throughout the body.
