Lateral Communication is Between

Horizontal or lateral communication takes place between one division and another. For example, a production manager may contact the marketing manager to discuss the schedule of product delivery, product design, quality etc.

Answer – Lateral communication is between different individuals/departments at the same organizational level.
Formal communication flows through official channels designed in the organization chart. This communication may take place between a superior and subordinate, a subordinate and superior, or among the same cadre of employees or managers. The communications may be oral or written but are generally recorded and filed in the office.
Formal communication may be further classified as – Vertical and Horizontal. Major types of information flowing through horizontal communication are:
- Information regarding coordination of activities across the various parts of an organization.
- Information about work activities at the same level.
- Information regarding colleagues feeling on work and work-related issues.
