Synopsis of IBPS RRB Office Assistant Mains Exam 2016

IBPS RRB Office Assistant Mains Exam 2016 was conducted yesterday. Exam was conducted from 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM in a single slot. We are now going to share a detailed overall exam analysis of IBPS RRB Office Assistant Mains based on the reviews of the students who appeared for this exam. We hope this would be helpful for all the students to identify the changing level of IBPS exams as well as those who will take up the upcoming exams.

Time for different sections was not allotted specifically. Candidates had to select either English or Hindi Language (4a, 4b) as a section for the exam.

Reasoning Ability

40 Questions were asked from this topic. Overall level of this section was Moderate.

  • Puzzles/ Seating Arrangements - 2 sets of puzzles and 2 sets of seating arrangements (i.e. total 20 questions) were asked in the exam from these topics. While the floor based and other puzzle asked were tricky since a number of cases could be formed, seating arrangements were comparatively easy.
  • Coding - Decoding - 5 Questions were asked from this topic. Almost all the questions were doable.
  • Syllogism - This topic comprised of 5 questions in the exam. There was no pattern change for these questions. A few questions involving possibility cases were also asked. 2-3 questions were doable from this topic.
  • Data Sufficiency - 5 Questions were asked from this topic. The level of these questions was comparatively difficult. Almost 2-3 questions were doable.
  • Miscellaneous - Remaining Questions of this section were from the miscellaneous category. This involved ranking, direction and blood relation based questions. Level of these questions was moderate.

Quantitative Aptitude

40 Questions were asked from this section. Overall level of the quantitative aptitude section was Moderate to Difficult.

  • Data Interpretation - 2 sets of DI (i.e. 10 questions) were asked in the exam. Level of these questions was moderate to difficult and questions were calculative hence time consuming. 7-8 questions were doable.
  • Quadratic Equations - 5 questions were asked from this topic. Questions were comparatively easy and 4-5 questions were easily doable.
  • Data Sufficiency - This topic comprised of 5 questions. Questions were moderate and 2-3 were doable.
  • Miscellaneous - Remaining 20 questions of this section were asked from the miscellaneous category. Topics asked involved Problem on ages, Probability, Partnership, Average, Mensuration, Mixture and Alligation, Boats and Streams, Time and Work Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest etc. Questions of these topics were calculative and time consuming.

English / Hindi Language

This section comprised of 40 questions. Overall level of this section was Moderate to Difficult.

  • Reading Comprehension - 2 sets of RC (15 questions) were asked. One of the RC was economy based and they were lengthy. Synonym - Antonym questions were also asked in the RC. 11-12 Questions were doable in this topic. Vocabulary based questions were also asked - idioms and phrases).
  • Cloze test - 10 questions were asked from this topic. One could attempt 7-8 questions from cloze test.
  • Error based - 5 questions were asked from error spotting. Questions were comparatively difficult and one could attempt 2-3 questions from this topic.
  • Fillers - 5 questions were asked from this topic where you had to fill in the sentence in the given passage. Level of these questions was moderate.
  • As far as the Hindi language was concerned, questions were asked from the following topics - Reading Comprehension (10 questions), vocabulary based (5 questions), para jumbles (5 questions), spotting errors (5 questions), Cloze test (10 questions).

General Awareness and Computer Knowledge

Major Changes in Exam Pattern as that of Last year -

  • The overall level of the exam was comparatively high for all the sections as compared to last year.
  • There was an increase in the number of puzzles/ seating arrangements asked this year. Level of the puzzles was also high.
  • Data Sufficiency questions were asked, both in reasoning ability as well as quantitative aptitude this year.
  • There were no questions from Number series as well as Simplification/ Approximation in quantitative aptitude section in this exam.
  • No questions were asked from Inequalities in this exam.
  • No questions were asked from Para jumbles in this exam.
  • Changing the pattern of English section, question from Idioms and phrases were also asked this year which came as a surprise for many students.
  • No Questions were asked from the static GK portion this year.
  • A major chunk of Quantitative Aptitude section comprised of Miscellaneous section which left the students in a quandary.
