To crack the SBI Exam has always been the aspiration of many candidates who prepare for the banking exams every year. Your dream can certainly come true provided you practice well along with studying the concepts. In our series of 'Super 7 Practice Sessions for the SBI Exams', today we are sharing most important 20 questions of Simplification, Approximation and Number series to help you in your preparation. Let's go through it now.
Simplification/Approximation
- Simplification/Approximation questions are all about BODMAS rule. One should strictly follow the order of BODMAS rule while solving questions from this topic.
- The order of BODMAS rule is as follows :
B: Brackets (first solve small brackets, then middle brackets and then large brackets)
O: Of
D: Division
M: Multiplication
A: Addition
S: Subtraction - Addition and subtraction can be treated on same priority (from left to right) when they are in consecutive order.
- In simplification question, you have to take the exact digit, you cannot approximate the question or answer according to you. You have to find the exact answer in simplification questions.
In approximation question, you can approximate the question as well as the answer given in option up to a certain limit. You need to find the nearest value in approximation questions, not the exact answer. - Sharpen your calculation skills by practice. Questions from this topic will give you very good score in less time provided your calculation speed is good.
Learn tables(1-30), squares(1-50), cubes(1-30), square roots and cube roots to solve these questions accurately in a fast manner.
Important Questions of Simplification & Approximation
1. Question - 125 × 625 ÷ 25 = 5(13–?)
Answer - 8
Solution- 125 × 625 ÷ 25 = 5(13–?)
125 × 25 = 5(13–?)
53 ×52= 5(13–?)
55= 5(13–?)
5 = 13 - ?
? = 13 – 5 = 8
? = 8
+42=50+X
(125*140)/875 + 42 = 50 + X
140/7 + 42 = 50 + X
20 + 42 = 50 + X
62 = 50 + X
X = 62 - 50
X = 12
(1050÷35+187×20)÷13 = ?
(30+3740)÷13 = ?

⇒ [{(150/100 × 44) -11}% of 660]% of 25 = (?)% of 165
⇒ [{(66) -11}% of 660]% of 25 = (?)% of 165
⇒ [{55}% of 660]% of 25 = (?)% of 165
⇒ [55/100 × 660]% of 25 = (?)% of 165
⇒ [363]% of 25 = (?)% of 165
⇒ 90.75= (?)% of 165
⇒ 90.75= (?)/100 × 165
⇒ 90.75 × 100= (?)× 165
⇒ 9075/165 = (?)
⇒ (?) = 55
Number Series
- In this topic , we have numbers which are written in a sequence thus making a ‘Number Series’. These numbers are written in a sequence which mean they follow a specific pattern. So we have to observe that particular pattern and then answer accordingly.
- If you practice much, then you will have a good grip on this topic . In this way , you’ll become familiar with most of the patterns of number series . Then you will find it easy to solve in exams
- There are various patterns which can be asked in number series questions . We are listing some of the commonly asked patterns in Exams :
Pattern based on differnces
Perfect Square Pattern
Perfect Cube Pattern
Cube root pattern
Square root pattern
Table of any number pattern
Prime Number Pattern
Multiplication Pattern
Addition Pattern
Difference Pattern
Divison Pattern
Geometric Series - Sometimes all the numbers of the series are given but one of the numbers doesn’t follow the pattern followed by rest of the numbers of the series. So we have to identify the pattern to eliminate inappropriate/wrong number in the series. This pattern is known as Odd one out pattern.
Important Questions
1. Question - 600, 519, ?, 406, 370, 345, 329
Answer - 455
Solution - The pattern is:
600 – 92 = 519
519 – 82 = 455
455 – 72 = 406
406 – 62 = 370
370 – 52 = 345
345 – 42 = 329
Hence Option B is correct.
2. Question - 27, 38, 71, 126, 203, ?
38 + 33 = 71
71 + 55 = 126
126 + 77 = 203
203 + 99 = 302
So, ? = 203 + 99 = 302
So the missing term is = 88*5+5= 445
3x1+2=5
5x2+3=13
13x3+4=43
43x4+5=177
177x5+6=891
→5,
→21 = 5 + 22 + 12,
→47 = 21 + 42 + 10,
→91 = 47 + 62 + 8,
→? = 91 + 82 + 6,
→? = 161
→265 = 161 + 102 + 4,
→411 = 265 + 122 + 2
Thus, the missing number is 161
7. Question - 40280625, 732375, 16275, 465, 18.6, 1.24, ?
732375 ÷ 45 = 16275
16275 ÷ 35 = 465
465 ÷ 25 = 18.6
18.6 ÷ 15 = 1.24
1.24 ÷ 5 = 0.248
So, ? = 1.24 ÷ 5 = 0.248
28×1+1=29
29×2-2=56
56×3+3=171
171×4-4= 680
680×5+5= (3405)
(43+4) = 68
(53+5) = 130
(63+6) = 222
(73+7) = 350
10. Question -2197, 2744, 3375, 4096, 4913, ?
Answer - 5832
Solution : 133 = 2197
143 = 2744
153 = 3375
163 = 4096
173 = 4913
183 = 5832
