  • It is a joint initiative of Ministry of Education and the Industry in the ratio of 50:25:25.
  • The scheme focusses on a viable industry-academic collaboration where industry shares a part of the cost of research.

GIAN

  • It stands for Global Initiative of Academic Network.
  • It was launched in 2015.
  • It is a programme of the Ministry of Education.
  • It aims at tapping the talent pool of scientists and entrepreneurs to engage with the institutes of higher education in India.
  • It further aims to augment the country’s existing academic resources, accelerate the pace of quality reforms, and further strengthen India’s scientific and technological capabilities.

Objectives of GIAN

  • To increase the footfalls of reputed international faculty in the Indian academic institutes.
  • Provide an opportunity for our faculty to learn and share knowledge and teaching skills in cutting edge areas.
  • To provide an opportunity for our students to seek knowledge and experience from reputed International faculty.
  • To create an avenue for possible collaborative research with the international faculty.
  • Develop high-quality course material in niche areas, both through video and print that can be used by a larger body of students and teachers.
  • To document and develop new pedagogic methods in emerging topics of national and international interest.

SPARC

  • It stands for Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration.
  • It is an initiative of the Ministry of Education.
  • The scheme aims at improving the higher educational institutions research ecosystem by facilitating academic and research collaborations between Indian Institutions and the best institutions in the world.
  • National coordinating institute to implement the scheme is Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.

IMPRESS

  • It stands for Impactful Policy Research in Social Sciences.
  • The implementing agency is the Indian Council of Social Science and Research (ICSSR).
  • The scheme will be implemented till March 2021.
  • IMPRESS scheme will be used to understand and solve problems facing society.
  • Under the Scheme, 1500 research projects will be awarded for 2 years to support the social science research in the higher educational institutions and to enable research to guide policymaking.

Objective

To identify and fund research proposals in social sciences with maximum impact on governance and society.

To focus research on broad thematic areas such as :

STARS

  • It stands for Scheme for Transformational and Advanced Research in Sciences.
  • It aims at promoting translational, India-centric research in Sciences.
  • It is implemented and managed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
  • With the key objective of supporting socially relevant research, the following 6 basic thrust areas have been identified: Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Nanosciences, Data Sciences & Mathematics and Earth Sciences.
