Study Notes on Higher Education For UGC NET Paper- 1

UGC NET Exam is conducted twice a year by NTA. There are ten units in Paper-1 and each unit has equal weightage in the examination. Most Important Topics in UGC NET Environment, Logical Reasoning, Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Communication, ICT, Higher Education.  


  • It is a Plagiarism Detention Software (PDS) “Shodh Shuddhi”.
  • This service is being implemented by Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET), an Inter-University Centre (IUC) of UGC.
  • Plagiarism Detection Software helps to improve the quality of research outcome by ensuring the originality of ideas and publication of the research scholars.
  • Initially, about 1000 Universities/ Institutions (Central Universities; Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs); State Public Universities; Deemed Universities; Private Universities; Inter-University Centre (IUCs) & Institutes of National Importance are being provided with this service.

What is Plagiarism?

  • The word plagiarism came from the Latin word ‘plagiarius,’ which means to kidnap. The word plagiarism is defined as when one researcher uses the work of another researcher without giving any credit, then this is called plagiarism. It is a punishable offence, and it is a form of intellectual theft.
  • Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics.


  • It is a digital repository of Indian Electronic Thesis and Dissertations.
  • It is set-up by INFLIBNET Centre.
  • It is a huge reservoir of research and intellectual property for the academicians maintained by INFLIBNET centre.
  • INFLIBNET runs and manages Shodhganga through an open source digital repository software called DSpace.
  • The DSpace is developed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in partnership between Hewlett- Packard (HP).
  • Shodhganga is a huge reservoir of Indian Theses and holds the ability to capture, index, store, disseminate and preserve ETDs (Electronic Theses and Dissertations) submitted by the researchers.


  • MHRD formed e-ShodhSindhu by merging three consortia initiatives, UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, NLIST and INDEST-AICTE Consortium.
  • The e-ShodhSindhu will provide access of peer-reviewed journals, bibliographic, citation and factual databases of different discipline from a larger number of publishers.
  • The data is provided to its member institutions including centrally-funded technical institutions, universities and colleges that are covered under 12(B) and 2(f) Sections of the UGC Act
  • The main motive of the e-ShodhSindu: Consortia for Higher Education E-Resources is to provide access to qualitative electronic resources including full-text, bibliographic and factual databases to academic institutions at a lower rate of subscription. 
  • It aims to develop a collection of e-journals, and e-books occurring repeatedly.
  • It aims to promote and monitor the usage of e-resources in member universities, colleges and technical institutions in India by creating awareness and through training programmes.
  • It aims to provide access to subscription-based e-books and e-journals to all educational institutions.
  • It further aims to bridge the digital divide and move towards an information-rich society through its initiatives.
