Vocabulary is an essential tool to ace the English section in competitive examinations. You can score better in the subject if you are able to intensify your command over Vocabulary. A regular reading habit can help you with this. With the exercise, you will come across a number of new words, whose meanings you can look up in the dictionary. This, in turn, will help you understand the context of the piece you are reading.

A daily dose of this article acquaints you with commonly (and not so commonly) used English words. 4. Word: Conscience (अंतःकरण)

  • Meaning: a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one's behaviour.
  • Synonyms: morals, scruples, morality, ethics
  • Antonym: insensibility, immorality, unaware, unconcern
  • Usage in a sentence: The thief must have had an attack of conscience because he returned the wallet with nothing missing from it.

5. Word: Frailty (निर्बलता)

  • Pronunciation: freyl-tee/फ्रैल्टी
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning:
    a. the quality or state of being frail
    b. moral weakness; liability to yield to temptation
    c. a fault resulting from moral weakness
  • Synonyms: foible, weakness, flaws

  • Synonyms: meanwhile, cessation
  • Antonyms: perpetual, everlasting

8. Word: Dispose (निपटाना)

  • Pronunciation: dih-spohz/डिस्पोज़
  • Part of Speech: Verb 
  • Meaning: 

        a. get rid of by throwing away or giving or selling to someone else.

        b. incline (someone) towards a particular activity or mood.

  • Synonyms: Discard, jettison, abandon
  • Antonyms: retain, acquire, keep
  • Use in a Sentence: Let's dispose of this matter once and for all.

9. Word: Elapse (व्यतीत होना)

  • Pronunciation: ih-laps/ इलैप्स
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning: (of time) pass or go by
  • Synonyms: pass, slip away, go by
  • Antonyms: bide, ablaze, reiterate, appear
  • Usage in a Sentence: The return of the echo will elapse longer time.

10. Word: Incarceration (बांध देना)

  • Meaning: the state of being confined in prison; imprisonment.
  • Synonyms: detention, restraint, punishment
