SBI PO 2019 Success Story: Sourabh Mehta
1. Preparation strategy for different subjects:
For quants- I used to practise simplification questions and DIs to improve my calculation speed so as to minimize the time taken for any question. For Reasoning- I used to solve 5 Puzzles and 5 Sitting arrangements from the Practice section of the BYJU'S Exam Prep app and some e-books I had. For English- I read the newspaper daily, especially the editorial page to improve my comprehension skills. For GA- I was in touch with the daily happenings through newspaper and some current affairs videos on YouTube and then used to attempt daily current affairs quiz on the app.
2. My strongest and weakest area:
My strongest area was always quants. Still, I worked it on hard so as to be in the 0.1% percentile of aspirants in this section. Because I believe one has to work on his strength to make the most of it and stand apart from others in that particular area. My weakness was GA, I am a very lazy person when it comes to revising the GA, but still, somehow I managed to revise it and monthly quizzes helped me to get some confidence in this section.
3. Difficulties I faced while preparing for the SBI PO 2019:
There was no difficulty as such because my parents supported me and didn't pressurize me at all. But yes, sometimes I used to get negative thoughts because of fierce competition.
4. Strategy to manage pressure during the preparation:
To handle pressure, I used to listen to music daily. It helped me very much. Secondly, I am a huge fan of English web shows. I used to watch one episode daily before going to bed. Also, this helped me improve my English comprehension skills.
5. Strategy in the last 2 weeks before the Phase II exam
In the last 2 weeks before the Main exam, I concentrated on GA mostly because it is the game-changing section. I followed the GK Tornado Sessions on the youtube channel of BYJU'S Exam Prep. Also, I re-attempted the puzzles and DIs in the mocks that I had attempted earlier. For English, I didn't do anything special.
6. My strategy for attempting the exam:
In the reasoning section, I looked for the miscellaneous questions first and then tried puzzles and sitting arrangement questions. In quants, I was very confident as it is my strength. So, I attempted from the first question itself. In English, I started with miscellaneous questions first and then attempted the compression passages. In GA, firstly attempted questions for which I was sure and made some guesswork in the questions where I was confused between only 2 options.
7. Role of Mock Tests, Previous Year Papers and Daily Quizzes play in the preparation:
Mock tests are really important because they give you the feel of the real exam. And BYJU'S Exam Prep mocks are always of high quality and real exam level. And the interface is also very much similar to that of the real exam. I used to attempt daily quizzes on BYJU'S Exam Prep app from the initial days of my preparation. Those quizzes are like mini mocks that build the quality of solving questions within a given time frame.
8. If I was preparing for any other exam during this preparation:
I was preparing for all the banking exams. And I gave some major exams like SBI CLERK, RRB PO, RRB CLERK, EPFO ASSISTANT, and IBPS PO. And till the time, I am writing this, I have qualified all these exams (whichever phase's result is out).
9. Preparation strategy for Personal Interview and my attempt strategy for the interview:
For PI, I knew that it was just a test of my personality. I was very confident about it and didn't join any institute. In PI, most of the questions that were asked to me were personal questions ( from my biodata). Firstly they asked me about my birthplace and a famous political family there and I told them. Then they praised me for my excellent marks during school time and graduation. They asked why didn't I opt for masters- I told them the procedure to get a job after masters (M.Sc in my case) so I decided to prepare for competitive exams. Then came the most obvious question-WHY BANKING? They had heard about many made-up answers by other candidates so I tried to give the most logical and practical answer- I told them that there is transparency and punctuality in the banking exams which attracted me. They were convinced. Then they asked about a few questions about my father's profession- I answered. Then there was a question If I heard some latest news. I told about the Climate summit and HOWDY Modi event. Then they asked me about Greta Thunberg- as it was a very latest question that time and I didn't watch her speech because I was travelling for my interview that day, so I told them that I don't know and explained the reason. This was it. It lasted around 8-10 min. and they seemed convinced with my answers.
10. How I managed preparation while working:
I am not working. My parents had asked me to focus on my preparation completely and I am very thankful to them because even after some economic distress, they didn't ask me to go for some private job.
11. Advice to the fellow aspirants:
I want to advise all the aspirants to believe in themselves. Don't get demotivated by the less number of vacancies. Work on your weaknesses but at the same time make yourself stand apart from others by mastering whichever section you are strong in.
12. Gradeup's role in my preparation:
This is the first time I opted for BYJU'S Exam Prep's test series and it has really helped me improve a lot. And the daily quiz section is amazing and is a must for anyone who is preparing for competitive exams.
13. Feature of BYJU'S Exam Prep which helped me the most:
The daily quiz and practice sections were very useful for me. During my initial days of preparation, I didn't have enough questions to solve. Then I got to know about the practice section of BYJU'S Exam Prep App, where we can practise N number of questions of any subject that too topic-wise, which is just great.
This was my story. If you work hard and smart with your strategy, you too can get success and clear SBI PO and other competitive exams.
Thank you for reading my journey to success.
