The article comprises a list of European countries by population. Europe is the second smallest continent in an area out of the 7 continents in the world. Europe encompasses an area of 10,180,000km² (3,930,000 square miles), stretching from Asia to the Atlantic, and from Africa to the Arctic.
Despite being the 2nd smallest continent, it is a continent that has well preserved cultural heritage, open borders, magnificent architecture, and efficient infrastructure. It attracts a huge number of international visitors every year.

Questions on countries with their capitals form a major part in the Reasoning as well as General Knowledge and Awareness questions. All the countries of Europe that are listed below are based on the current data as of December 2020.
How many Countries are there in Europe?
This has been a common question for a number of people. Europe has a total of 50 countries. But, by conventional definition, there are 44 countries in Europe. The other 6 countries are said to be transcontinental. It means that they are a part of both Europe and Asia. The countries that are not included in the list of 44 European countries are those that occupy only a small part of Europe.
The countries that share only a small part of their country with Europe are as follows:
- Turkey: It occupies only a small part of East Thrace on the European Balkan Peninsula.
- Cyprus: It is an island in the Mediterranean Sea and is geographically part of Asia Minor (Middle East).
- The Faroe Islands: It is an island group between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean that is a self-governing territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.
- Greenland: It geographically belongs to North America.
- Kosovo: It is a partially recognized state in the Balkans.
- Kazakhstan: A small part of Western Kazakhstan is considered to be a part of Europe.

The list of all the European Countries by population is given below. Russia has the largest population amongst all the European countries whereas Vatican City in Southern Europe has the lowest population.

Russia occupies the largest area in the world while Vatican City (Holy See) is the smallest. Vatican City covers only 0.2 square miles which is almost 120 times smaller than the island of Manhattan.
