Marks Scoring Topics for SBI PO Mains Exam 2019 (Based on Previous year analysis)

SBI PO mains exam is scheduled to be held on 29th January 2020. As we are writing the post the admit card of the SBI PO Mains exam has been released. Now Only a handful of days left for the SBI PO Mains exam 2020, we are writing this article to help boost your preparation for the last bit of the exam. 

In this post, we are sharing the details of all the topics based on the previous year's exam analysis which you have to study for SBI PO Mains Exam 2020-21. These topics will help you plan the exam strategy. It will help you identify the topics you need to attempt first so as to score maximum marks.


You must know the number of questions asked from all the topics so that you give your maximum time to important topics. Before we start with the section-wise important topics, make sure that you understand the exam pattern as well as syllabus of SBI PO Mains properly.

Scoring Topics for SBI PO Mains Exam 2020 -21

Let us now have a look at the individual sections as well as their important topics for the exam.

Data Analysis and Interpretation

In this section, 35 questions carrying 60 marks will be asked. You will be given 45 minutes to attempt this section. As per the last year, the following questions were asked in this section, so you should give special attention to these topics.

Quantitative Aptitude Topics Asked in the SBI PO Main 2018:

  • As the name suggests, the major portion of this section comprises of questions from Data Interpretation.
  • There was 1 set (5 questions) asked from Missing Data Interpretation, which was moderate-difficult to attempt.
  • 2 sets (10 questions) were from Bar graph which was of moderate level.
  • There were 10 questions from 2 caselet. One was based on Time and Work and the other was based on the topic Partnership. The overall level of this question was difficult.
  • 4 Questions were asked from Data Sufficiency, which was Moderate - difficult to attempt.
  • Last year, 4 questions were asked from Quantity based question, where you had to evaluate the value of 2 separate quantities that were given in the question and then establish the relationship between the 2 as per question requirement.

Quantitative Aptitude Topics Asked in the SBI PO Mains Exam 2019:

  • Following Topics of Data Interpretation were asked in the mains exam
    • Caselete - 5 Questions - Data of the marks of students was given
    • Time & Work DI- 3 Questions
    • Funnel Shape DI- 5 Questions- Data of loan was given
    • Graph-based DI - 5 Questions
    • Scattered graph - 3 Questions
  • Other Topics that were asked are:
    • 1 Question - Students data was given for different colleges in the form of a Venn diagram
    • 1 Question - It was based on Simplification
  • Number Series: 3 numbers need to find and their comparison was given in the options
  • Profit and Loss - It was a statement condition-based question.
  • Mensuration - It was based on apple pie
  • Ages - It was an age-related question

Now, as per the analysis of last year, you have to focus more on

Remember, the overall level of the questions is expected to be difficult and the questions will be calculative. So, prepare accordingly.

Quantitative Aptitude Quizzes

Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude

This section would comprise of 45 questions and you have to attempt them in 60 minutes. As per the last year, they can be of 60 marks. Now, we will discuss the list of questions that were asked from this section last years.

Reasoning Topics Asked in the SBI PO Mains Exam 2018:

  • The major chunk of questions was from puzzles and seating arrangement.
  • 1 set was Month and the ages based
  • One was Blood Relation Puzzle
  • One was a Circular Arrangement
  • One was the dual linear arrangement
  • 3 questions were asked from Input-Output. The question was based on double shifting
  • 10-12 questions were asked from Verbal/ Logical Reasoning. The overall level of these questions was Moderate to Difficult
  • 3 Questions were asked from Data Sufficiency.
  • 4 Questions were from Direction Sense
  • 5 questions were asked from Matrix which is a part of Computer Aptitude. The level of this question was moderate.

Reasoning Topics Asked in the SBI PO Mains Exam 2019:

  • Puzzles & Seating Arrangement. Following are the details of the topics asked in the puzzle:
    • 4 Questions- It was based on stacks A, B, and C
    • 3 Questions - Direction Sense Puzzle
    • 1 Question - Concentric Square Puzzle
    • 5 Question - Blood Relation Puzzle
    • 4 question - Pentagon, Circle & Triangle Puzzle
    • 3 Question - 3-row house arrangement
    • 4 Question - Tabular Puzzle
  •  Data Sufficiency - Scheduling puzzle question asked. and 4-5 Logical Reasoning questions were asked based on Topics such as Conclusion, True possible reason, passage-based, etc.
  •  Input-Output- It was based on numbers
  • In Direction Sense 1 Question was paragraph based and 3 Questions were puzzle-based.
  • Coding-Decoding
    • 4 Question - new pattern coding-decoding with blanks in the question
    • 1 Question - It was based on the coding of the position like a symbol was coded as "second to the left"

English Language

35 questions will be asked in this section and you will have 40 minutes to attempt this section. Last year, this section was asked for a total of 40 marks.

English Topics Asked in the SBI PO Mains Exam 2018:

  • There were major changes in the English language last year.
  • There were 20 questions from the topic of Reading Comprehension last year. In one RC, 15 questions were there, 5 - 6 paragraphs were given in a passage. Some sentences were bold and questions were based on those bold parts. The topic was Discussion and comparison between the growth model and fixed interest model mindset. In other, 5 questions were there. its topic was Discussion about the different definition of innovation and invention. 1 question was from Vocab. In this word with meaning was given. You had to check whether it is correct meaning or not. It not, identify the correct meaning from the options
  • 3 questions were from the para jumble. In this, d i.e, the fourth sentence was fixed. You have to arrange the other sentences. The topic was the evolution of agriculture clearance techniques since Neolithic era
  • 3 questions were from Tripple fillers which were of moderate - difficult level. Here 6 words were there and you have to answer like a-c, b-e and so on
  • 2 questions were from Sentence Connectors. 2 connectors were given. You had to identify which connector is joining two given sentences. The connector was a single statement
  • 4 questions were from the Sentence Completion. A sentence was divided into parts and one part was missing. You had to find the missing part
  • 2 questions were asked from the new pattern Sentence Correction. A sentence was given. You had to find the correct alternative of it
  • 2 questions were asked from Synonym & Antonym

English Topics Asked in the SBI PO Mains Exam 2019:

  • In the English section, Reading Comprehension was the most important topic. In RC, There were a total of 6 passages. In each passage, there were at least 3 - 4 questions asked.
  • The topics were Real estate investment, Economy of China, Story of an officer attending his send of function, diversification of work and its effect on the economy, Increasing fire risks due to faulty equipment in a tumble dryer company
  • Few questions were asked on the Fill in the blanks in which 2 blanks were there in 1 sentence and 3 choices were against one blank. 
  • In Phrase Replacement questions 3 sentences were given. There was some phrase given in the bold letters which need to be replaced.
  • There was one set of Para jumble asked in the exam. One para jumble consists of 5 questions. In this, there were 5 sentences that were jumbled and you need to arrange an individual sentence and then arrange sentences need to be arranged

GA Topics Asked in the SBI PO Mains Exam 2018:

  • Maximum Questions in this section are expected to be based on economy/ banking awareness as well as current affairs.
  • Apart from these, you can also expect 4-5 questions from static general awareness.
  • Make sure that you prepare this section thoroughly because if prepared well, general awareness section can prove to be the highest scoring segment for you.
