1. 8th BRICS Summit 2016 to be held in - Goa.
Note:
- India will host the eighth annual Summit of BRICS from October 15—16 in Goa.
- India assumed chairmanship of BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) from Russia on February 15 and it will last till December 31.
- The logo for the Summit is a lotus having colours from all the five member countries and a traditional ‘namaste’ in the centre.
- 7th BRICS Summit 2015 was held in Ufa, Russia.
2. 2016 Water Film Festival held in - New Delhi
Note:
- The 2016 Water Film Festival, a part of the India Water Week 2016 celebrations held at Water Expo-2016 in New Delhi.
3. 3rd Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation held in – New Delhi
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the third edition of Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi to save wild tigers.
- India is host of this edition of conference in which more than 700 tiger experts, scientists, managers, donors and other stakeholders are participating.
- Ministers and government officials from all 13 tiger range countries (TRCs) participating in the conference.
- These 13 TRCs are: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
- The first edition of Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation was held in Hua Hin, Thailand in 2010 and second edition was held in Thimphu, Bhutan in 2013.
4. 2016 Heart of Asia – Istanbul Ministerial Process held in – India
Note:
- The 6th edition of Heart of Asia – Istanbul Ministerial Process 2016, a regional conference, held in New Delhi on April 26, 2016.
5. The 2016 Retreat of the Supreme Court judges held in – Bhopal
Note:
- President Pranab Mukherjee has inaugurated the 4th edition of retreat of Supreme Court Judges 2016 at the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
6. The Regional Conference of North Eastern States on Child Adoption held in - Shillong
Note:
- The Regional Conference of North Eastern States on Child Adoption has been held at State Convention Centre in Shillong, Meghalaya.
- The Union Minister for Women & Child Development Maneka Gandhi has inaugurated the conference to familiarize the stakeholders involved in the adoption process in North Eastern States about the provisions relating to adoption under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and orient them about the provisions of Adoption Guidelines – 2015 as well as the online adoption process through Child Adoption Resource Information and Guidance System (CARINGS).
7. 2016 National Tribal Carnival held in – Delhi
Note:
- The first National Tribal Carnival held in Delhi to preserve and promote various facets of the tribal life relating to culture, tradition, customs and their skills and to expose it to the general population with a view to utilizing the potential for overall holistic development of the Scheduled Tribes.
8. Defence trade show, Defexpo India 2016 held in – Goa
Note:
- The Defexpo India 2016, the official defence trade exhibition, held in Goa from March 28, 2016.
- It is the 9th edition of the series of biennial land, naval and internal homeland security systems exhibitions.
- The 2016 theme is “Rise of Futurism”

10. The International Children’s Film Festival for the North East Region held in - Gangtok
Note:
- The event named, “The Golden Elephant” has been organised by the Children’s Film Society of India, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in association with the Sikkim Government’s Culture and Heritage and Human Resources Development Departments.
11. The 2016 Global Bamboo Summit held in - Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
12. The first-ever World Sufi Forum (WSF) held in - New Delhi
Note:
- The first-ever World Sufi Forum (WSF) has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on March 17, 2016.
13. The 2016 Maritime India Summit (MIS) held in - Mumbai
Note:
- Maritime India Summit 2016 (MIS 2016) is a maiden flagship initiative of Ministry of Shipping, Government of India that provide a unique global platform for investors to explore potential business opportunities in the Indian Maritime Sector.
- MIS 2016 was held on April 14-16, 2016 at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai, India.
14. India Aviation 2016 event held in - Hyderabad
Note:
- The President of India Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 5th edition of ‘India Aviation 2016’ on March 16, 2016 at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad.

16. The first National conference of Women legislators held in – New Delhi
Note:
- The President of India Pranab Mukherjee has inaugurated the first National conference of Women legislators titled “The Role of Women Legislators in Nation Building (Mahila Janpratinidhi – Sashakt Bharat Ki Nirmata)” in New Delhi.
- The theme is “Building Resurgent India”
- The Speaker of Bangladesh Shirin Chaudhary was the chairperson of the plenary session.
- The basic purpose of the conference is to tell women legislators how can they contribute in nation-building.
17. The first Raisina Dialogue 2016 has been hosted by which union ministry? - Ministry of External Affairs
Note:
- The first Raisina Dialogue 2016 has been hosted by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), an independent think tank based in India, in New Delhi.
18. 103rd Indian Science Congress held in Mysuru, Karnataka
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 103rd edition of the Indian Science Congress (ISC) in Mysuru, Karnataka.
- The theme of this edition of the Congress is “Science and Technology for Indigenous Development in India.”
19. 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) held in New Delhi.
Note:
- The 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) was held on 9 January 2016 in New Delhi.
- The event was inaugurated by the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and attended by Priti Patel, MoS for Employment, United Kingdom.
The 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas was unique for two reasons -
- It was the first limited edition of the PBD. The government, in 2015, took a decision to limit the PBD conference as a biannual event and extend the PBD across the world and throughout the year. In effect, the next PBD conference will be held in 2017.
- It was organised for the first time by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) after the government’s decision to merge Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) with it. Earlier it used to celebrated by the MOIA.
About Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas
- It is being held annually since 2003 to bring the Indian Diaspora on a single platform and leverage their resources in nation building activities.
- The day is held annually on 9 January 2015 to mark the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India.
- Apart from the PBD, regional PBDs were also held across the world. The most recent, 9th RPBD was held in November 2015, in Los Angeles, the USA.
- The 13th PBD was held in Gujarat marked the 100th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa.
20. 10th World Hindi Conference held in – Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
Note:
- Theme of the Conference is “Hindi Jagat: Vistar avm sambhavnai”.
