  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Mathematics and Science with at least 55% marks or any equivalent qualification will also be eligible.

Is B.Ed Compulsory for CTET Exam?

CTET Eligibility Criteria

The Students who have qualified B.Ed may also be eligible to apply for CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) 2023. According to a recent development, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revised the eligibility criteria for CTET Exam 2023. The candidates who passed the B.Ed exam and already applied for CTET Paper-2 now can apply for both the papers- Paper-1 and Paper-2.

The candidates who are interested in appearing for the exam must check out the CTET Eligibility criteria in detail. This will help them gauge if they are eligible for the CTET Exam or not. Eventually, they can complete the courses and degrees necessary to become eligible for the exam in due course of time. Here are the detailed CTET Eligibility Criteria mentioned below.

I. CTET Paper 1 (For Primary Teacher)

Candidates who possessed “Graduation with at least 45-50 per cent marks and passed or appeared in 2 years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed)” are now eligible for becoming Teachers for Classes I-V: Primary Stage.

II. CTET Paper 2 (For Secondary Teachers)

Graduation with at least 45 – 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in 2- a year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) or BEd (Special Education) or four-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/ B.Sc.Ed is also eligible to apply.

Is B.Ed Compulsory for CTET Exam?

The answer to this is probably yes. The answer is simple, According to the NCTE guidelines, the minimum qualification for a person to be eligible for an appointment as a teacher is to have graduated with at least 45-50 per cent marks and teach professional courses like B.El.Ed/ D.Ed/ B.Ed/ B.Ed (Special Education). It had been inter alia provided that one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any of the schools referred to in Clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act is that he/she should pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which will be conducted by the appropriate Government under the Guidelines framed by the NCTE. From the above information, it is clear that a B.Ed degree is compulsory for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of CTET.
