India Post Payment Bank Preliminary Exam 2016-17 Overall Analysis

India Post Payment Bank Preliminary Exam was conducted on 7th and 8th January 2017 in different slots. India Post Payment Bank (IPPB) was recently incorporated as a Public Limited Company with 100% Government of India equity under the Department of Posts. 650 branches of the bank would be established in India, which will be linked to rural post offices. 
IPPB Prelims was conducted for the first time this year. We are now sharing a detailed overall analysis of this exam based on the reviews of the students who appeared for this exam. We hope this will help you identify changing levels of banking exams and with your strategy for upcoming exams.

Overall level of the exam was Moderate.

English Language

30 Questions were asked from this section with a total of 30 marks. Overall level of this section was Moderate.

  • Reading Comprehension - 1 set (10 questions) was asked from this topic. Passage in almost all the slots was Economy based. Vocabulary based questions (Synonyms/ antonyms) were also asked in the passage (4 Questions). 6-7 questions of this topic were doable.
  • Cloze Test - 1 set was asked from this topic with a total of 10 questions. Passage topic varied for different slots (transportation, pollution etc.) but overall level was easy and 7-8 questions from this topic were doable. Most of the passages asked here were articles from The Economists.
  • Spotting Errors - Remaining 10 questions of this section were error based. Level of questions from this topic was Easy to moderate and 6-7 questions were doable.

Quantitative Aptitude

35 Questions were asked from this section with a total of 35 marks. Overall level of this section was Moderate.

  • Number Series - 5 questions were asked from this topic. Series asked were based mainly on patterns of exponential with subtraction, multiplication with addition/subtraction, double level difference, multiplication etc. 3-4 questions were doable from this topic.
  • Simplification/ Approximation - 5 questions were asked from this topic. Level of these questions was easy and almost all the questions were doable.
  • Quadratic Equations - 5 questions were asked from this topic. Level of these questions was easy to moderate and 3-4 questions were doable.
  • Data Interpretation - 2 sets were asked from this topic with a total of 10 questions. One line and and one tabular graph were asked. Tabular graph asked in almost all the slots had data in percentage and was calculative. Line graph was comparatively easy and doable.
  • Miscellaneous - Remaining 10 questions of this section were asked from miscellaneous category including Age, Mixture Allegation, Partnership,Pipes and Cisterns, Profit Loss, Average, Boats & Stream, Compound/Simple Interest, Time & Work, Probability etc. Questions from these topics were comparatively difficult and time consuming. 5-6 questions from these topics were doable.

Reasoning Ability

  • Seating Arrangement and Puzzles - 3 sets were asked from these topics with a total of 15 questions. While circular arrangement, with some people facing center and some outside was asked on Day 1 of the IPPB prelims, square arrangement with 4 people facing inside and 4 outside was asked on second day. Apart from this, one linear arrangement was also asked with some people facing north and some facing south. This question was comparatively tricky. Puzzle was also asked based on days of week or floor arrangements.
  • Syllogism - 3-5 questions were asked from this topic. Level of questions was easy and almost all the questions were doable.
  • Inequality - 3-5 questions were asked from this topic. Direct inequalities were asked and 4-5 questions were doable.
  • Coding - Decoding - While this topic consisted of 5 questions on day 1, no of questions was reduced to 1-2 on second day. Sentence coding was asked on both days.
  • Input - Output - 5 questions from this topic were asked on second day of IPPB Prelims. Question was moderate and almost all were doable.
  • Miscellaneous - Remaining questions of this section were asked from miscellaneous category. Questions were asked from topics like Blood relations, Ranking based etc. Level of questions from these topics was easy to moderate.

Highlights of the Exam -

  • As expected, Pattern and Level of this exam was in lines with that of IBPS PO Prelims conducted this year.
  • There was slight variation in Reasoning Section on both days of the exam. Questions from Input - Output were introduced and no. of coding-decoding questions were reduced on second day of the exam.
  • Day 1 included questions from circular arrangement while square arrangement was asked on second day of exam.
