IIM Selection Process consists of three stages. It starts with the MBA Entrance Exam CAT and ends with GD-PI-WAT round and final admission process. The candidates must check all the details regarding IIM Selection Process 2023, to avoid last minute cancellation of their candidature. IIMs are India’s leading management education and research institutions. Every year, nearly 2 lakh applicants appear for the CAT, which is considered as the first stage of IIM Selection Process.

IIM Selection Process 2023: Eligibility Criteria

In 2021, there was a slight change in the CAT Eligibility Criteria. The committee has removed the minimum percentage of marks for the CAT Exam. Also, the candidates in the final year of their Graduation Degree with ‘promotion/pass’ instead of ‘award of marks’ certificates in any of the last two years of the Bachelor’s Programme can enter the ‘Promotion or Pass’ option in the application form. The eligibility criteria for CAT 2022 has remained the same as of CAT 2021.

  • Candidates should have completed their Graduation Degree from a recognised university in any stream
  • Final-year students who have completed their degree requirements and are waiting for their results are also eligible.
  • Students with a professional degree are also eligible (CA/CS/ICWA/Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI)
  • There is no age limit for the candidates to apply for the exam.

IIM Selection Process

As per the trends, the IIM Admission Process includes the following stages:

  • Stage 1: Common Admission Test CAT
  • Stage 2: WAT (Written Ability Test)
  • Stage 3: PI (Personal Interview)

IIM Admission Process – Stage 1

In this stage, the candidates need to appear for the Common Aptitude Test, also known as the CAT, which is administered by the IIMs (GMAT for international candidates).

After the CAT Result is released, candidates must apply for the Group discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), and Written Ability Test (WAT) round through an official notice on each IIM’s website. Aspirants who meet the shortlist cut-off must submit their name and CAT score using their CAT IDs.

IIM Selection Process Stage 2

It is the Written Test/Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The candidates who applied for WAT/GD-PI are screened in the second round based on their CAT Cut Off and academic record, and interview letters are provided to those who are selected to participate in the WAT-GD-PI round. Between February and April, the WAT-GD-PI round is held in selected cities, although since 2020, only the PI round has been held online via video call.

IIM Selection Process Final Stage

Final admission offers Candidates are shortlisted based on their CAT scores. In the third stage, each student’s aggregate score is determined using numerous characteristics to conclude his or her selection. IIMs final selection procedure includes evaluating an applicant based on a set of criteria and calculating a total score.

Preparation Tips IIM Admission Process 2023

Self-study is a good way to get prepared of IIM Selection Process. It depends upon an individual whether they want to Prepare for CAT by Self Study or by taking the CAT Online Coaching. The CAT exam is conducted entirely online. The written examination is normally moderately difficult in difficulty.

The first and most important prerequisite is to properly understand the CAT Exam Pattern and syllabus. Ability to select the appropriate question, understand it fast and precisely, and solve it quickly and accurately

  • Know the syllabus: Before beginning test preparation, it is important to have a thorough understanding of the CAT Exam Syllabus. Although there is no standard syllabus provided by the IIMs. The CAT is divided into three sections: Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC).
  • Strengthen your fundamentals for IIM Selection Process: Begin working on the basics of each topic after you’ve gone over the curriculum and exam pattern. This will help the candidates to solve the questions with more accuracy. While regular reading is required to master the verbal ability component, the other two sections need a significant amount of practice. After you’ve mastered the fundamentals, move on to solving questions by topic and chapter.
  • CAT Mock Tests should be given regularly to prepare for IIM Selection Process. If you haven’t taken the mocks, your CAT Preparation is considered incomplete. Furthermore, the mock results reveal the CAT aspirant’s strengths and shortcomings in terms of the CAT entrance exam’s topic areas.
